In short
- One page per question. Symptoms, the test, the treatment and your personal situation each have their own page below.
- Diagnosis before prescription. Two fasting morning testosterone tests between 8 and 10, with LH and FSH.
- Genuine deficiency is uncommon. About 2 in 100 men aged 40 to 79 in the European Male Ageing Study.
- Treatment has trade-offs. More atrial fibrillation, pulmonary embolism and fractures in the TRAVERSE trial, and suppressed fertility.
Who This Service Is For
Who this is for
- Men with reduced libido, fewer morning erections, persistent fatigue, low mood or loss of muscle despite training.
- Men who were started on testosterone elsewhere and want the diagnosis verified.
- Men with type 2 diabetes, osteoporosis or a low trauma fracture, where deficiency is genuinely more common.
- Men taking long term opioids or high dose steroids, both of which suppress testosterone.
- Men who want the whole endocrine and metabolic picture measured, not one number.
Who it is not for
- Anyone wanting a prescription based on a single afternoon blood test.
- Anyone wanting a normal testosterone raised for physique or performance.
- Men currently trying to conceive, where treatment suppresses sperm production and a different approach is needed.
- Men who are acutely unwell, where hormone testing gives a temporarily low and misleading result.

Do you need a hormone assessment at all?
Most men who ask that question do not have a hormone problem, and finding that out properly is worth more than a prescription.
The symptoms that bring men here, low energy, low libido, poor recovery, weight that will not shift, fit low testosterone. They also fit sleep apnoea, short sleep, excess weight, alcohol, thyroid disease, iron deficiency, low mood and several common medicines. Genuine deficiency is uncommon: in the European Male Ageing Study of men aged 40 to 79, symptomatic low testosterone affected about 2 in 100.
So the first appointment is not about testosterone. It is about finding out which of those is actually happening to you.
How does the pathway work?
In four steps, and a prescription is only possible after the second.
| Step | What happens |
|---|---|
| 1. Assessment | Symptoms separated one by one, plus sleep, weight, alcohol, medicines, chronic illness, and whether children are planned. Physical examination. |
| 2. Testing | Morning fasting testosterone on separate days with LH and FSH, plus thyroid, blood count, ferritin, HbA1c, lipids, liver, kidney and PSA where age appropriate. |
| 3. Diagnosis | A confirmed deficiency, a look alike cause that needs treating instead, or an unclear picture that needs repeating properly. All three are written down. |
| 4. Treatment and review | Whatever the diagnosis calls for, with fixed review dates and repeat bloods rather than an open ended prescription. |
The diagnosis needs symptoms plus a low morning fasting testosterone on at least two separate days, not one reading. How low testosterone is diagnosed.
What separates proper care from a testosterone shop?
Four things, and they are easy to check before you book anywhere:
- Two morning fasting tests, not one. A single reading taken in the afternoon, after food, will often come back low in a man who is not deficient.
- LH and FSH measured, so the source of the problem is known before it is treated.
- The look alike causes assessed in the same visit, not after a failed hormone trial.
- The fertility question asked before the first prescription, because testosterone suppresses sperm production and recovery takes months.
A clinic that skips these can still make you feel better in the short term. It cannot tell you whether you needed the treatment, and it has committed you to something that is difficult to reverse.
Poor sleep, sleep apnoea, excess weight, alcohol, thyroid disease and low mood cause the same symptoms far more often than a hormone does. The look alike causes.
Where should you start?
The right starting page depends on your question: symptoms, the test, the treatment or your personal situation. Each page covers one subject in depth.
- Symptoms: low testosterone, andropause, male hormonal fatigue, brain fog in men, loss of muscle mass and reduced athletic performance.
- The test: TRT consultation, how low testosterone is diagnosed.
- The treatment: testosterone replacement therapy, all preparations, benefits, risks and monitoring.
- Your situation: andropause treatment, TRT for men over 50, TRT for young men, TRT and fertility, TRT for men with diabetes, TRT after steroid use and TRT for weight loss.
- Ongoing care: the Men’s Performance Membership.
- A first check: the low testosterone self-check, 10 yes or no questions from the ADAM questionnaire.
- Practical questions: TRT cost in Dubai, stopping TRT, high haematocrit on TRT and moving to Dubai with TRT.
Men’s health care in Dubai and the UAE
Why this comes up so often in Dubai
Because the local pattern, long hours, short sleep, an indoor sedentary day and weight gained gradually since arriving, produces exactly these symptoms.
The National Health and Nutrition Survey 2024-2025 of the Ministry of Health and Prevention found insufficient physical activity in 59.1 percent of adults, obesity in about 22 percent and raised blood glucose in 12.5 percent. Excess weight also lowers the binding protein that carries testosterone in blood, which pushes the measured total testosterone down without necessarily lowering the active hormone. That is one reason low readings are common here and real deficiency is not.
Where testosterone sits in UAE law
It is a prescription medicine, dispensed only by licensed pharmacies, and listed among controlled medicines in the UAE list of restricted medication.
When the Ministry of Health and Prevention acted against gyms selling hormones, it stated that hormones, injections in particular, need a doctor’s prescription and medical tests beforehand. The ministry also said in 2018 that these hormones may only be prescribed by the treating physician, and only for a clear medical reason. In July 2026 the Emirates Drug Establishment took action against 71 online sources selling unapproved peptide products and referred 14 influencers to the authorities.
Dr Felix treats within the scope of his Dubai Health Authority licence. When a case needs a specialist view, for example a wish for children, an abnormal prostate finding, a possible pituitary cause or a high red blood cell count, the treatment decision is made together with an endocrinologist, urologist or fertility specialist.
Bringing testosterone into the UAE needs a ministry permit, a recent prescription and a medical report. The travel rules.

How the Consultation Works
-
1
Your symptoms and goals
We start with what has actually changed for you: energy, libido, erections, mood, sleep, training response, body composition and concentration. We also cover work pattern, alcohol, stress and whether you plan to have children, because that changes the options.
-
2
Medical review and examination
Dr. Felix reviews your medical history, medication, previous results and family history, then examines you. Blood pressure, weight, waist and a targeted physical examination help separate hormonal causes from metabolic, thyroid or sleep related ones.
-
3
Blood tests and diagnosis
You have blood taken in the morning, when testosterone is highest, and a second morning sample on a separate day if the first is low. Alongside this we check the markers needed to interpret the result and to exclude other causes.
-
4
Your plan
Once the picture is complete, Dr. Felix explains what your results mean and recommends a plan. That may be testosterone therapy with a defined monitoring schedule, or treatment of another cause, or a period of lifestyle and metabolic work first.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, where the diagnosis is properly established: symptoms plus a clearly low morning fasting testosterone on separate days, with LH and FSH measured and the look alike causes excluded. Not on a single reading, and not as a trial to see what happens.
Your symptoms are gone through one by one, alongside sleep, weight, alcohol, medicines, chronic illness and whether you want children. There is a physical examination, and blood tests are arranged, including a morning fasting testosterone. No prescription is issued at that visit.
Usually two to three weeks, because the repeat morning sample has to be taken on a different day. Where the first value is clearly normal and your symptoms point elsewhere, the answer comes sooner and the work moves to the actual cause.
Less common than the marketing suggests. In the European Male Ageing Study of men aged 40 to 79, symptomatic low testosterone affected about 2 in 100. Low readings are much more common than real deficiency, particularly in men carrying extra weight.
Then the symptoms have another cause, and that is worth finding. Sleep apnoea, short sleep, excess weight, alcohol, thyroid disease, iron deficiency, medication and low mood account for most of these cases and all respond to treatment.
Yes, with a prescription from a licensed doctor and dispensed by a licensed pharmacy. It is a regulated medicine. Hormones sold in gyms or by online sellers sit outside that system, and UAE regulators have acted against both.
Yes. Bring whatever records you have. Your own level cannot be measured meaningfully while treatment continues, so the review works from the history, current levels and blood count, and an honest discussion of continuing or stopping. Nothing is decided at the first visit.
No. The products sold for recovery, fat loss and performance have no regulatory approval for those uses, unknown content, and no monitoring attached. Growth hormone in an adult without a documented deficiency has no established benefit that justifies its risks.
