What does a men’s sexual health consultation with Dr Felix include?

A men’s sexual health consultation with Dr Felix includes 3 areas: erections, desire and ejaculation. When two problems occur together, the one that started first is usually treated first.

In the Massachusetts Male Aging Study of 1,290 men aged 40 to 70, 52 percent reported some degree of erectile dysfunction, about 1 in 2 (Journal of Urology, 1994).

Why is the heart checked in a sexual health consultation?

The heart is checked because erectile dysfunction and heart disease share the same blood vessel damage. Erectile dysfunction often appears years before symptoms of coronary heart disease, so it works as an early warning sign.

  • Blood pressure: measured at every visit.
  • Blood sugar: HbA1c (glycated haemoglobin, the average blood sugar over three months).
  • Cholesterol: a lipid profile to estimate the 10-year heart risk.
  • Exercise tolerance: chest pain or breathlessness on stairs means a heart check before any erection tablet.

The UAE expert panel on erectile dysfunction recommends a cardiovascular risk assessment for every man with erectile dysfunction (Journal of Multidisciplinary Healthcare, 2025).

Are erection tablets safe with heart and blood pressure medicines?

Erection tablets are safe with most blood pressure medicines, but never with nitrates. Nitrates in any form, including glyceryl trinitrate spray and isosorbide tablets, are an absolute contraindication to sildenafil, tadalafil and vardenafil, because the combination causes a severe fall in blood pressure.

Alpha blockers for the prostate are combined only with a gap and a low starting dose. Men with high blood pressure: ED treatment with high blood pressure. Men with diabetes: ED treatment for diabetics.

What is the difference between erection problems in young and older men?

Erection problems in young men are more often caused by anxiety, stress and recreational drugs; erection problems in older men more often by blood vessel disease. Morning erections that are still firm point to a psychological cause rather than a blood vessel cause.

Both groups get the same medical check, because diabetes, high blood pressure and low testosterone also occur in young men. Young men: ED treatment for young men.

Men’s sexual health in Dubai and the UAE

A regional survey of 1,008 men cited by the UAE expert panel on erectile dysfunction found that 84.1 percent of men using erection tablets had bought them without a prescription, more than 8 in 10, and only 38.1 percent of the users had erectile dysfunction at all (Journal of Multidisciplinary Healthcare, 2025). The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention has warned against sexual enhancement products that contain undeclared sildenafil, tadalafil or vardenafil, because of the risk of a severe fall in blood pressure (Khaleej Times).

Erection tablets bought without a prescription skip the heart and medicine check. The consultation with Dr Felix is confidential, and prescriptions are filled at licensed pharmacies in Dubai.
